What is Black Forge whisky coffee liqueur?

Black Forge is a 700ml coffee liqueur made with Chief’s Son Single Malt Whisky, whole coffee beans steeped slowly, vanilla pods, and molasses. It is crafted on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria — just 40 minutes from Melbourne — and it is available now online and at our cellar door.

At its heart is a collaboration between two Peninsula makers who care deeply about their craft. Chief’s Son has been distilling single malt whisky on the Mornington Peninsula since 2013. Revolution Roasters has been roasting exceptional coffee in Somerville for years. When we sat down together and asked what would happen if our two obsessions found each other, Black Forge was the answer.

How to best drink BLACK FORGE – Australia’s new whisky coffee liqueur

Black Forge was designed to be as versatile as it is distinctive. Here are the four best ways to enjoy it:

Neat

Pour 30–45ml into a heavy-based glass. Let it sit for a minute. The warmth of your hands opens the nose and the vanilla and coffee soften beautifully. This is the purist’s choice — and the best way to appreciate what the Mornington Peninsula single malt brings to the equation.

Over ice

A large single cube is ideal. The slow dilution as the ice melts progressively opens the flavour — first the coffee, then the vanilla, then the whisky warmth underneath. Patient and rewarding.

Over vanilla ice cream

Two scoops of good vanilla ice cream. A generous pour of Black Forge over the top. Eat immediately.

The Black Forge Espresso Martini

This is the serve most people will reach for first — and it will not disappoint. Because Black Forge uses whisky rather than vodka as its base, the espresso martini has a depth and complexity that the standard version simply doesn’t. And because Deceit is decaf, you can shake one at any hour.

45ml Black Forge Whisky Coffee Liqueur

30ml FORGE (optional — if your wanting to make the double espresson martinit)

45ml / One double shot of espresso, freshly pulled and cooled slightly

15ml Sugar syrup

7ml of your favoourite chcololate

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.

Shake hard for 15 seconds until the shaker is very cold.

Double strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.

Garnish with three coffee beans. Serve immediately.
